Festival in Primary school “Lyuben Karavelov”- Nova Zagora, Bulgaria

Today – 7th November – the International Day of Eco-schools - was celebrated in Primary school "Lyuben Karavelov". Students and teachers proudly noted that the school was one of the first in Bulgaria, which was awarded the prestigious international award "Green Flag" of the European Foundation for Environmental Education and Training Programme "Eco-Schools" and a European certificate of quality of the environmental education in the school.

Program "Eco-Schools" is an international program that is initiated and managed by non-governmental organizations, members of the Foundation for Environmental Education. Program started in 1994 in response to the challenge of uniting the efforts of young people to solve environmental problems and sustainable development.

Schools with the best results are distinguished with the prestigious award of the "Eco-Schools" - "Green Flag." Program "Eco-School" started in Bulgaria in 1997.

In 2001 Primary school "Lyuben Karavelov" was awarded this prestigious international award - "Green Flag". Since then everyone – students, their parents, and teachers – has been involved in several events dedicated to the conservation of nature.

Today's celebration was accompanied by a number of activities:

- Drawing competition on the topic "I am a student at a eco-school"

- Preparing a poster dedicated to the World Day of Eco-schools

- Celebration of November 7

- Visit to the local zoo - the participants of the school club "Ecology"

- Planting a tree in the eco-park of the school

- Formal meeting of the eco-club

- Theme class dedicated to the program "Eco-Schools" and environmental education

- Action "Save a tree"

- Action for collection of discarded batteries and unnecessary electrical appliances

The feast was prepared by participants in the school club "Ecology" led by Mrs. D. Ovcharova and "Green Detectives" - headed by Ms. A.Koleva. The song on ecological topic, lyrics written by the student of 4-A grade Deborah Kostadinova, and music written by Mrs. Ivanova – head of the school vocal group “Cricket", was cheerfully applauded.

With great interest the children worked out "The tree of messages" by the idea of ​​Mrs. V.Tsvetanova and Mrs. D.Malcheva. On the tree children stuck their messages, which expressed their desire to preserve the native landscape for the future generations!

The school headmaster - Mr. Tsvetanov - greeted the young environmentalists and wished to continue working and to keep being so enthusiastic and dedicated.
